Lets see. Into week 2 of the “Secrets to a happy life tour”, and going strong. Not homesick yet, but def missing some home cooking and routines. Back to back to back shows affords you the ease to loose track of time and location. I almost forgot the name of one school I was performing at, but a quick pause and prayer helped retrieve that data. What’s today’s date again?
Yeah, I’m living the dream. Wake up at 9am and stumble down to hotel fitness center where I burn off on the treadmill the previous day’s cheesecake and burger calories while some old lady on the bike stares at my back side the whole time. Then I steal a quick shower so I can make it downstairs in time for complimentary breakfast because it’s free, and I looooveee free. 4 hr drives from one location to the other while listening to my headphones (which I later found out is illegal), or listening to chuck the mad ox give me some hip hop/life tutorial. Arrive at the next hotel, unpack, unwind, unfunkify(shower), and then off to sound check at the next school. Perform the show, kill the show, talk to people, give out sweaty hugs, take pics, sell cds, refuse marriage proposals and then back to the hotel. Repeat sequence!
This past couple of days has been Radford college, University of Mary Washington, Old dominion university, and tonight at Longwood. Great shows and the students and staff have been GREAT. Shout out to my peeps Steve and Karen along with their crew from Radford. Them guys were super nice…yeah I said “them”. UMW were hella cool because they liked my right biceps and were a really engaging crowd. Big ups to Whittney and Amy for being so hospitable. The student performers rocked the house. ODU had an open mic in which we were the features, and all I have to say is there are some talented students there. Special thanks to Kristi, Symone and Mary for all their love and support. Tonight at Longwood was really nice. Really easy going and down to earth people. Word ups to Thomas, Sarah, Jamie, Chris(sound guy), Laura etc for making our day run smoothly. UNC Pembroke here we come.
I’m blessed and thank the lord for allowing me to live my dreams. He’s answered all my prayers except for the one about keeping the local cinema 8 theater open on a Thursday night till past 9pm so I can unwind. I’ll just cry and complain bout it cos it’s a free country, and I’m free to complain and cry.
Till the next time we rock n roll, keep making good music the soundtrack to your life. Love you all!
Let’s see I’m really irate now as I type this for the 2nd time because the first time while trying to edit, I selected all and mistakenly deleted my whole post arrggghh! To make matters worse, I only type with 2 fingers, while the others point and laugh. Anyway, I had to post this tonite because my manager challenged me to write this today with an incentive of a whooping lobster dinner hehe.
The college tour is going great so far, and I feel blessed to be able to share my music all over the country, blessing peoples lives in the process. Special memories and bonds already have been made with the different staff and students I have come in contact with. Here’s the scoop so far.
This past week I had 3 shows. 1 show solo and 2 with my main man Daniel Booker aka Boom! I started solo at Thomas More college on 1/24/11 and was picked up by a security car. I sat in the back and became well acquainted dog hair in the back seat which I eventually came to realize belonged to Tom. Tom is the cute and spoiled(cos he gets rub downs n treats wherever he goes) dog who was rescued from the pound, and was hired to chase geese I believe off school property. I envy Tom for such a great job. Ashley my contact with the school was fantastic, and boy does that gurl have so much on her plate. More power to you my dear. The show went well, and off I flew for show numero dos.
That would be U of Maine Farmington which was hella cold with a side order of mucho snow. Esther and her crew were so hospitable and nice that Boom and I didn’t want to leave. The show was magical, and man was I distracted by that couple making out in the back. Nelly’s Echo music is baby making music and I approve that statement. U of Maine Farmington Rocks! The climax of the evening was when we were interviewed by a radio station in school called the fornication forum. Enough said bout that and moving on.
Last stop was Colby sawyer college which had amazing people like Brittany and Briana B&B and the rest of their crew. Daniel and I introduced ourselves as the other person to B&B just to mess with them, and as our punishment, we were housed in the school guest mansion which was haunted. Daniel and I while in the house kept comparing our skin colors to see who was darker. The black guy, or blacker guy in our case would go first like the movies. I was blacker, but the ghost spared me because I was cute…they said it not me.
The show was amazing, and we took some blackmail worthy pics, and gave some uncomfortably long hugs after the show. The highlight of the night was at dinner with some of the students. Daniel broke out the never before seen shark dance move that will soon sweep the nations. I lost 1.25 pounds from laughing so hard. Hey Colby, you owe the world a youtube video of the shark attack.
I write all this to say thank you all so much for giving this boy with a guitar and a mic a platform to speak. I’m no better than the other musician (even though I have to die for biceps), I’m just blessed to be doing what I do now. The shows continue to come fast and furious and I hope to connect with people via melody. Do me a favor music lovers, and make good music the soundtrack to your life. God bless you all.
